COLUMBUS: The Ohio Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that an officer's visual estimation of speed is enough to support a conviction for speeding. The court's 5-1 decision says independent verification of a driver's speed is not necessary.

The court upheld a lower court's ruling against a driver who challenged a speeding conviction that had been based on testimony from police officer in Copley, 25 miles south of Cleveland. The officer said it appeared to him that the man was driving too fast.

Kellogg Co. has agreed to drop advertising claims that Rice Krispies will strengthen children's immune systems, the U.S. Federal Trade Commission said on Thursday.

Kellogg had agreed in February 2009 to stop claiming that its Frosted Mini Wheats were "clinically shown to improve kids' attentiveness by nearly 20 percent."

"What is particularly disconcerting to us is that at the same time that Kellogg was making promises to the commission regarding Frosted Mini-Wheats, the company was preparing to make problematic claims about Rice Krispies," FTC Chairman Jon Leibowitz wrote in a statement.

Kellogg said in a statement that it had "a long history of responsible advertising."

A businessman is under fire for buying tiny parcels of land so he can sell or lease them for inflated prices to people who thought they owned them.

In one case, Guthrie businessman Ron Edwards is demanding four Edmond condominium owners pay him $80,000 for a shared driveway he bought for $1,584 at a county auction.

The owners haven't paid, so Edwards blocked their driveway with concrete highway barriers last month. Many of the Estates residents are elderly and some can barely walk.

"I thought I made a decent offer,” Edwards said.

Wisconsin maple syrup producers saw a 41 percent dip in production this year compared with 2009's record year. This year's production was 117,000 gallons, according to numbers from the Wisconsin Field Office of the National Agricultural Statistics Service. That's down from 150,000 gallons in 2008. The U.S. Department of Transportation's recent proposals for improving air travel include the possibility of banning packets of peanuts to accommodate those allergic to the nuts.
